Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Fireside Stories ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application ("Fireside Stories" or the "App"). Fireside Stories is developed and operated by Pattern Works LLC.
Important: Fireside Stories is designed for recording family conversations and preserving memories. It is NOT intended for recording confidential, legal, medical, financial, or sensitive business information.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
- Email Address: Used for account creation, authentication, and communication
- Password: Securely hashed and stored; we cannot access your plain-text password
Conversation Data
- Audio Recordings: Voice recordings you create within the app
- Transcripts: Text transcriptions generated from your audio recordings
- Metadata: Recording date, duration, titles, and descriptions you provide
- Speaker Labels: Names you assign to speakers in your conversations
Technical Data
- Device type and operating system
- App version
- Push notification tokens (if you enable notifications)
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide transcription and AI-powered search features
- To store and organize your recorded conversations
- To send notifications when transcripts are ready (if enabled)
- To improve our services and user experience
- To respond to your support requests
3. Third-Party Services
We use trusted third-party services to provide our features:
AssemblyAI
We use AssemblyAI for audio transcription. Your audio files are sent to AssemblyAI's servers for processing. AssemblyAI's privacy policy applies to this processing.
Google Gemini
We use Google's Gemini AI for semantic search and question-answering features. Transcript text is sent to Gemini to generate embeddings and responses.
Supabase
We use Supabase for data storage and authentication. Your data is stored securely in Supabase's infrastructure.
RevenueCat
We use RevenueCat to manage in-app subscriptions. RevenueCat processes purchase-related data and device identifiers to manage your subscription status.
4. Sensitive Information Protection
Automatic PII Detection: Our system automatically scans transcripts for sensitive personal information including Social Security numbers, credit card numbers, phone numbers, and email addresses. When detected, this information is automatically REDACTED before being stored. The original sensitive data is NEVER saved to our database.
Despite our automatic protections, you should:
- Avoid recording conversations containing sensitive financial, medical, or legal information
- Obtain consent from all participants before recording
- Review recordings in private settings
5. Data Security
- All data is transmitted using HTTPS encryption
- Data is stored in secure, encrypted databases
- Access to your data requires authentication
- We use Row-Level Security to ensure users can only access their own data
6. Your Rights
Access Your Data
You can view all your conversations, transcripts, and account information within the app.
Delete Your Data
You can delete individual conversations at any time. You can also delete your entire account from Settings, which will permanently remove all your data including audio files, transcripts, and account information.
Important — Subscriptions and Account Deletion:
Deleting your Fireside Stories account does NOT automatically cancel any active Apple subscription. Apple manages all payment information (credit cards, billing) directly through your Apple ID — Fireside Stories never has access to this data. Before deleting your account, you must manually cancel your subscription in iOS Settings > [Your Name] > Subscriptions. No refunds will be provided for unused subscription time after account deletion.
Data Portability
You can access and download your transcripts directly from the app.
7. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account:
- All audio files are permanently deleted from our storage
- All transcripts and conversation data are permanently deleted
- Your account information is permanently deleted
- Subscription metadata is removed from our payment processor (RevenueCat)
Note: Fireside Stories does not store or have access to your payment information. All billing data (credit cards, payment methods) is managed by Apple through your Apple ID. Deleting your Fireside Stories account does not delete your payment information from Apple or cancel any active subscriptions.
8. Children's Privacy
Fireside Stories is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email.
